The North East Vernacular Architecture Group (NEVAG)

NEVAG operates within the historic counties of Northumberland and Durham, as well as those areas south of the Tees, formerly in North Yorkshire, now within the North East region of England.

NEVAG was formed in 1991 from the previous County Durham and Northumberland Vernacular Architecture Group. It focusses on the North East region’s lesser traditional buildings, of cottage, house, and farm. It explores the craftsmanship of vernacular buildings linked with the daily lives of the ordinary people who lived in them.

The objective of the Group is:
To advance the education of the public in the understanding of the vernacular buildings of the North East of England and in particular to record those vernacular buildings which are in danger of disappearing due to decay, demolition or change.
